Further information about this vehicle type
The R756 double-decker carriage, also known by its type designation DABza 756, is a versatile middle carriage used by Deutsche Bahn that combines both first and second class in a single vehicle. These coaches were manufactured between 1994 and 1996 by Deutsche Waggonbau AG (DWA) at its Görlitz plant and are specially designed for regional transport with high passenger volumes. With a length over buffers of 26,800 mm and a car body width of 2,784 mm, the R756 cars offer generous space for passengers. The entry height is 1,150 mm, making them suitable for high-level platforms. The carriages are equipped with Görlitz VIII bogies and reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h. Power is supplied centrally via the train busbar, and the vehicles have a closed toilet system. Over the years, various sub-types of the R756 have been developed to meet the different requirements of regional transport. For example, some carriages were converted to the DABpza 756.9 variant, which has air conditioning and a multi-purpose area. These conversions took place from 2006 onwards at the Wittenberge repair workshop and were adapted for use in regions such as Lower Saxony, Bavaria and Hesse. Depending on the variant, the number of seats varies between 25/96 and 35/69 (1st/2nd class). The R756 carriages are mainly used in regional transport and were designed for platform heights of 1,150 mm. Their double-decker design offers a high passenger capacity, making them ideal for busy routes.
