The Class 203 locomotive represents a proven four-axle diesel-hydraulic platform that historically evolved from the DR Class V 100 and is valued in the market primarily for its robust basic design, flexible application options and the availability of expertise and conversion/modernisation concepts. The DR V 100 was developed as a four-axle diesel locomotive for medium-duty service and was built in large numbers; it was considered reliable and was widely used in passenger and freight train service as well as in heavy shunting service. In the course of later refurbishments and customer-specific conversions, many decommissioned machines were modernised in different variants; an optional conversion to 100 km/h was designated as the 203 series, with different engines and control systems being used depending on the version. Specifically, this is a LEW Hennigsdorf (Hans Beimler) locomotive, built in 1973, with EBO approval and country approval for Germany (D). The locomotive is currently not operational; a technical defect is reported as gearbox damage (cost estimate available). The data sheet also shows, among other things, 26,161 operating hours, 211,083 km, Bo'Bo' axle arrangement, a maximum speed of 100 km/h, a locomotive weight of 64.73 t and a CAT 3512 engine with 1,072 kW. The last general inspection took place on 14 April 2022, with the next inspection scheduled for 13 April 2028; the last workshop visit was in December 2025. Equipment includes MESA train radio and PZ80 R train protection system.
