Further information about this vehicle type
The V 100 West, officially known as Class 211, is a proven diesel-hydraulic locomotive originally developed by the German Federal Railway (Deutsche Bundesbahn) for light mainline service. The locomotive offered here was built in 1962 and remains in operational condition today. Equipped with a modern CAT 3512 L diesel engine delivering 1,000 kW of power, it is perfectly suited for shunting duties as well as light to medium-haul operations. With a maximum speed of 100 km/h and a tractive effort of 177 kN, this locomotive meets current requirements for industrial and private rail operators. Featuring a B'B' axle configuration, the Class 211 stands out for its robust engineering, reliability, and well-documented maintenance history. The current revision is valid until April 2026, and the last general inspection (Hauptuntersuchung) was carried out in 2018. The locomotive is currently in the workshop; it shows normal signs of use but no major technical issues. Safety-relevant systems such as the PZB train protection system and MESA 26 analog radio are installed and functional. With a total weight of 62 tons and a buffer-to-buffer length of 12,100 mm, the V 100 West offers a solid platform for a wide range of applications. It can negotiate curves with a minimum radius of 100 meters, making it suitable even for tight industrial track layouts. The locomotive does not have remote shunting control or radio operation, but thanks to its classic mechanical design, it is easy to operate and maintain. All in all, this BR 211 locomotive is a piece of German railway history that continues to deliver with modern engine power—a perfect blend of tradition and performance for heritage operators, railway enthusiasts, or industrial users who value reliability and mechanical integrity.
