Further information about this vehicle type

On behalf of the owner, we are offering a roadworthy V 100 West of the Class 211 series for sale. Built in 1962 by Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK), this diesel locomotive bears the NVR number 92 80 1211 061-7 and is authorised for use in Germany. It is currently in shunting service and is available by arrangement. With its high engine power, compact design and a top speed of 100 km/h, the BR 211 on offer is suitable for shunting duties as well as for transfer, construction train and freight services. The V 100 West was developed for the Deutsche Bundesbahn in the late 1950s. It was primarily intended to replace steam locomotives on non-electrified branch lines and was originally used in light passenger and freight train services. The version designated V 100.10 was renamed Class 211 in 1968 as part of the switch to computer-compatible vehicle numbers. A total of 364 locomotives of this class were built between 1958 and 1963. Alongside MaK, Deutz, Henschel, Jung, Krupp, Krauss-Maffei and Maschinenfabrik Esslingen, amongst others, were involved in series production. The robust basic design and the locomotive’s versatility meant that, after the end of their regular service with Deutsche Bahn, numerous units were reused by private railway companies and, in some cases, extensively modernised. The V 100 West on offer differs significantly from the original production specification in terms of its engine. Whilst the Class 211 was predominantly fitted ex-works with diesel engines from Maybach, Mercedes-Benz or MAN and an original continuous power output of around 809 kW, this vehicle, according to the sales brochure, is fitted with a CAT 3512 diesel engine with a power output of 1,082 kW. The locomotive achieves a tractive force of 126 kN and a top speed of 100 km/h. The current operating hours counter shows around 47,069 hours. The last workshop visit took place on 10 July 2026. With a length over buffers of 12,100 millimetres, a weight of 62 tonnes and a B’B’ wheel arrangement, the locomotive has the typical dimensions of the Class 211 series. The minimum negotiable curve radius for this vehicle is specified as 100 metres. Its equipment includes a Knorr braking system, a MESA 26 train radio system and a point-based train control system (PZB). It is not fitted with a radio remote control or a shunting coupler. The braking weight is 65 tonnes in braking position P and 57 tonnes in braking position G. The V 100 West’s last major inspection was carried out on 30 January 2019. The inspection schedule, as set out in the prospectus, indicates 30 January 2027, meaning that a new major inspection will be required in the foreseeable future. This point should be taken into account in operational and investment planning. Nevertheless, the locomotive is currently listed as operational and can be viewed by arrangement. This V 100 West, which is for sale, combines the tried-and-tested design of the Class 211 with a significantly more powerful CAT engine. This makes it an attractive second-hand locomotive for rail transport companies, construction train operators, port railways and industrial sidings seeking a high-performance diesel locomotive for shunting and mainline operations.
